In just a couple weeks, we’ll be headed to Calgary, AB, Canada hosting the  Assessment & Treatment of Neck & Rotator Cuff Injuries, which are some of the most common reasons patients come to see us! 

Not only will you learn about key injuries to these regions, but even more importantly, you’ll learn proper assessment methods for determining where the actual pain is coming from. Trigger Point Needling for the Head, Neck & Shoulder

We are also super excited to offer this newest foundational class offering May 11-12, 2024 at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN! This hands-on workshop focuses on the identification, palpation, and needling of myofascial trigger points associated with the head, neck, and shoulder. 

The techniques taught are invaluable to the treatment of pain conditions and are easily incorporated into your existing acupuncture practice. You’ll leave this class:

• having an anatomical understanding of trigger points, as well as peripheral and central sensitization 
• understanding the role trigger points play in the channel system as well as key clinical signs to recognize when employing trigger point needling
• gaining confidence in needling sensitive structures of the head, neck, chest, and upper back outside of their standard education

• You have two entire program years to complete all required classes if you are pursuing the certification track AND you do not need to start with any particular module or take modules in order,
• Participants also have the option to matriculate in SMAC Program classes at any time and to take individual courses either in-person or online 
• The four required live, in-person only classes are now being offered on both coasts—in San Diego, CA and in Bloomfield, NJ!

Peroneal Nerve Entrapment: A Common Lower Leg Pain Generator

One of the most challenging aspects of a clinician’s work is to accurately determine the primary tissue causing referred pain. For example, paresthesia along the lower Gallbladder channel (below the knee) may stem from nerve impingement in the lower lumbar spine, common peroneal nerve entrapment posterior to the fibular head or possibly from a localized cutaneous nerve entrapment near GB 37. An accurate and differential diagnosis can be made through the combination of a thorough intake, observation, appropriate testing and palpation. 

While nerve entrapment in the lumbar spine is well recognized as a contributor to lower leg sciatic paresthesia and assessed with common orthopedic exams such as the straight leg and slump test, peroneal nerve entrapments are not as well recognized and yet are common in clinical practice. Peroneal neuropathy is the third most common localized neuropathy after median and ulnar neuropathies.
