Enhancing Sports Medicine with Traditional Chinese Medicine
ACUSPORT EDUCATION NEWSLETTER
ISSUE 25 | APRIL 2020
We at AcuSport Education understand how difficult these times have been as we face a global pandemic of unexpected proportions. To adhere with social distancing guidelines and protect our community of students, we have cancelled all classes until July and we will re-evaluate in the next month if this needs to be extended. Module III has been moved to
October 2020 and January 2021. Please see below for the specific dates.
We hope you are at home, practicing good self-care and using this time advantageously to study. 😀 As such, we decided to develop a video to teach you how to assess static and functional postural assessment via a telemedicine format and then prescribe corrective exercises to help reduce pain and prevent injury. Please see our Featured Article below— “Telemedicine Guide: A of Low Back Pain Case Study."
1. The SMA Textbook is available for purchase!
|
“An impressive and very thorough book destined to be a great reference guide for the clinic.” — Tom Bisio
“Every practitioner of acupuncture at every level will gain further insight and knowledge from this book.” — Peter Deadman
NOTE: The book is available in Canada, Europe, Australia and the UK. To purchase it from one of these locations, please do so through the appropriate distributor found in the FAQ section of the website.

3. FEATURED ARTICLE
Telemedicine Guide: A Low Back Pain Case Study
by Matt Callison, L.Ac. and Brian Lau AP, C.SMA.
This article and the accompanying video are meant to share our experience with developing, designing and working through the logistical issues of a telemedicine consultation. Our goal is to help practitioners learn a different way to help their patients during these challenging and ever-changing times of COVID-19.

6. ACUSPORT EDUCATION'S STRATEGIC ALLIANCES
We want to make sure you know about the beneficial alliances that AcuSport Education has formed with Lhasa OMS and Unified Practice. This is just one of the ways we are fulfilling our goal to support our program graduates!
7. WANT TO STAY CONNECTED WITH US DURING THE MONTH?
Make sure to join our Sports Acupuncture Facebook Group where we post interesting treatment strategies and the sports acupuncture community shares clinically relevant discussions that can help you improve your practice. We began
moderating this new group on July 1, 2019. It is closed to the public, but open to ALL Licensed Acupuncturists and Acupuncture students (proof required) and ALL members of the group can post. The page is NOT exclusive to C.SMAs, so others training in Sports Acupuncture are welcome to post, though we think that the group will reflect Sports Medicine Acupuncture, especially if C.SMAs post frequently. Below is a portion of the statement that appears on the 'About'
page.
"This group is open to licensed and registered acupuncturists. The goal of this sports acupuncture group is to build unity in the field of Sports and Orthopedic acupuncture and to promote this field within the larger acupuncture community. While the administrators of the group are the creators of Sports Medicine Acupuncture®, sports and orthopedic are welcome to post and discuss. The group is lightly moderated. Information from
all traditions of acupuncture are welcome and encouraged, as they are collectively integrated into this forum, but please keep the conversation relevant to the above stated goals."
The current SMA Google Group (for C.SMA practitioners) and SMA Facebook page remain the same.
